Parents’ Code of Conduct

 

            The ideals of Catholic education and the mission of Saint Patrick School must be supported and promoted.  The established school policies and practices as set forth by the Diocesan Superintendent of Schools, the Pastor, the School Principal, and the Athletic Association Board are listed below and must be followed.  “The primary concern and responsibility of our Saint Patrick School community is to meet the challenges of educating the whole child to achieve his or her unique potential spiritually, morally, emotionally, intellectually, physically, and culturally.” (Saint Patrick School Vision Statement

IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LEAGUE RULES:

  • All parents and spectators are asked to set a good example and cheer in a positive, sportsmanlike manner; the use of profanity, threats or behavior likely to endanger the health, safety or welfare of anyone will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave.
  • Any parent or spectator who steps onto the court during a game to address a referee, coach, or player, or another parent or spectator will be immediately ejected from the gym.  Only the head coach may address the referee.
  • During foul shots, all spectators must remain quiet.
  • No personal basketballs are allowed in the gym or ball playing before, during, or after the game.
  • No spectators are allowed on the stage.
  • The site manager (appointed by the head coach) for the game has the authority to ask anyone to leave the gym whom he or she believes is engaging in unsportsmanlike behavior or in a manner injurious to the health, safety, or well being of any player, coach, or spectator.
  • All other rules of the Morris County Catholic Basketball League must be followed.  Failure to follow these rules may result in the team’s forfeiture of the game.

AS PERTAINS TO TEAM PRACTICES:

  • Team members should be dropped off and picked up on time.
  • Parents should make sure that the coach is present when they drop off their child.                  
  • Only students on the team may be present for practices.  Siblings may not attend.  

AS PERTAINS TO TEAM GAMES:

  • Every student attending the game must be seated with an adult who is responsible for his/her supervision.
  • All spectators must remain seated in the gym.  The stage is always off-limits.
  • Food and beverages must be consumed in the lobby.
  • Every parent present will assist in monitoring and enforcing these regulations.
  • Every parent is required to report yelling, profanity, derogatory language, threats, or inappropriate gestures directed towards any referee, coach, spectator, or player to the Site Manager for that game who will than report it to the presidents of the Athletic Association within 24 hours.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

            Any event requiring corrective action will be handled confidentially by the Athletic Review Board in conjunction with the Site Manager.  The Athletic Review Board will consist of the school pastor, principal, the physical education teacher, and the co-presidents of the Athletic Association.  The Athletic Review Board has the right to suspend any coach from coaching, player from playing, or parent from attending an athletic event.

Students’ Code of Conduct

TEAM PRACTICES:

  • Students must follow the guidelines of the coach and behave in a way that allows them and others to benefit from the practice.
  • Students need to give 24 hours advance notice to be excused from a practice.  Otherwise, it is unexcused.
  • Team members may bring a water bottle.   Food and other beverages are not allowed in the gym.
  • Students must remain in the gym at all times, unless supervised by one of the coaches.  The stage is always off-limits.
  • Students should wait inside with the coaches until they are picked up.
TEAM GAMES:
  • Team members must remain with the coach and follow his/her direction.
  • Team members should use positive words with their teammates, other teams, referees, and all coaches.
  • Team members should behave in a Christian manner.
  • Team members should consume all food and beverages (other than water) in the lobby.  

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION:

The following policy will be followed with regard to participation in extracurricular activities.  An “F” in any subject with the designated code numbers, as listed in the Honor Roll section, equals a suspension from the team until the progress reports; a “D” in any two subjects with the designated code equals a three week suspension from the team (one additional week for each additional “D”); any conduct code warrants suspension.  An I or D in general conduct warrants a three week suspension, and a U or F, a four week suspension, in addition to demonstrating improvement in behavior.

Coaches’ Code of Conduct

IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LEAGUE & ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION RULES:

  • All coaches are expected to set a good example and coach in a positive, sportsmanlike manner.
  • Yelling, profanity, derogatory language, threats, or inappropriate gestures directed towards any referee, coach, spectator, or player will not be tolerated.
  • Coaches are expected to adhere to Morris County Catholic Basketball League rules and the Saint Patrick School Athletic Association guidelines regarding playing time.
  • With regard to playing time and substitutions for the 7th and 8th grade players, because the league does not have rules for playing time with respect to the 7th and 8th grades, coaches must use their judgment to achieve equitable playing time. 
  • Coaches must report all technical fouls (both procedural and non-procedural) assessed on any Saint Patrick coach to the co-presidents of the Athletic Association within 24 hours.

AS PERTAINS TO TEAM PRACTICES:

  • Coaches should be on time and remain until all players have been picked up by his or her parent.      
  • Coaches should only allow students on the team to be present for practices.  Siblings may not attend.
  • Coaches should ensure that all players present at a practice participate equally.  
AS PERTAINS TO TEAM GAMES:

·         For 4th, 5th and 6th grade teams with 15 players or more, squads of approximately 5-6 players of equal ability will be created by the coaching staff.  An equitable rotation will be set up and two squads will play each game, which will allow the players more meaningful playing time during the games that they play.

·         For 7th and 8th teams with 15 players or more, the coach, needs to inform the Athletic Association Board about his/her plans to achieve equitable playing time.  If issues of equitable playing time arise, equal ability squads may be required by the Board.  The goal is to ensure that the players have equitable playing time.   

  • The coach will appoint a site manager for each home game.  The site manager is responsible for announcing and enforcing gym policies.
  • The site manager will ensure that spectators remain off the court before the game, during time outs, in between quarters, during half time, and after the game.  The stage is always off-limits.
  • The coach and players are responsible for the removal of trash from the gym floor.

SUSPENSIONS:

  • First non-procedural technical foul will result in a one game suspension.
  • Second non-procedural technical foul, in a separate game, will result in a three game suspension. (Coaches may not attend practices or games until the suspension is served.)
  • Third non-procedural technical foul, in separate games, will result in the removal of that coach from his or her position.
  • Failure to report technical fouls within 24 hours will result in an additional one game suspension.
  • Yelling, profanity, derogatory language, or inappropriate gestures directed towards any referee, coach, spectator, or player will result in a one game suspension.
